Ahh, I LOVE my pillows

I saw these gorgeous pillows at the Provo Farmer's Market and fell in love! Since I had recently moved into a new home with no color, cute pillows became a must! I knew I needed at least 6 and at $30 each I just couldn't afford it, so I went to Joann's to buy the material and make them myself and by the time I bought fabric for only two pillows, buttons, & thread, I was already at $25!! Seriously, $25 and I didn't even have the pillows to go inside yet. I realized it was impractical to make them since Kaeley at kblossom design had already mastered it, and it would cost about the same, but I had to spend all the time doing it, so I gave her a call and traded a portrait painting of her cute son Boston for the pillows. I LOVE TRADES! It worked out so well for us both and I get compliments on my pillows DAILY! People notice the pillows before the new couch, new house, new floors, etc. etc. etc. Seriously, check her out - you won't be disappointed with the pillows you get - they make a world of a difference! She has WAY more pillows than she has time to upload to her store, because they keep selling so quickly, so if you don't see one you want online give her a call. She also does custom orders where you pick out the fabric...

I'm a painter, just in case you didn't already know that, and the real reason I quit my job at KLAS is so I could focus more on what I really LOVE to do...paint! I've studied drawing and painting for almost a decade now with some of the best artists in Utah and the US and I FINALLY feel ready to open up shop! I've already had a few children's portrait commissions (above) and I have a couple more I'm waiting on images for, so to get Scott Studios up and going, I'm going to discount the price for the first 3 people who commission a portrait from $250 to $150!! You don't have to have all the details, just send me a quick note saying that you want one or comment below and I'll put you on the list. We'll work out the details later.

Someday I'll own a boat...

But until that day, I'll just have to go down to Moovalya Keys and let my mom and mark spoil us with theirs! Seriously, they are so generous and not only did they share their amazing Chaparral Boat, but they also rented a huge house for everyone to stay in and were the most gracious of hosts - they slept on the floor so everyone else could have a room...talk about GIVING! The Moovalya Keys are a group of homes, all with waterfront access to the canals and rear access to the streets and it is incredible! It has all the luxury of a houseboat on Lake Powell, times ten, with the comfort of staying in a home. AKA - Coleman napped in a bedroom with the door closed and didn't get off his schedule, we had unlimited air conditioning and actually got too cold in 110* weather, and we didn't have to load and unload the boat everyday. I got to swim right in front of our house while Coleman slept and I even brought my ice cream maker and made peach sorbet one day and rocky road another - it was awesome! We had a wonderful time seeing family and watching Coleman play with cousins and we even learned to wake surf! Mom and Mark - you guys are the best - thanks for always taking us on such fun trips! We had a great time with everyone who was able to go and felt so sad to leave. We have so much great family!!!

We are so lucky! My sister, Amber, came to visit for a week a few weeks ago and we had a great time! I wish she could've stayed longer! She took Coleman on bike rides, fed the ducks, helped with the cleaning, hung out, swam, cooked dinner with me - she did it all! It was so nice to have the extra help with Coleman, but it was especially nice to spend more quality time with my little sister. She and Coleman really hit it off and he LOVED how much she played with him! He was totally spoiled. These pictures are from her camera, since I was bad about taking pics while she was here...

Edible arrangement of FRUIT with chocolate covered pineapple delivered to my house - thanks Mom!
Some great girl friends took me to lunch, my choice.
I have another lunch date with a friend tomorrow!

Quit my job as my birthday gift to myself...Scott Studios HERE I COME!!
David surprised me and left work at 3 pm.
Came home to a birthday surprise present on my doorstep
Phone still ringing & texting - so many people showed me love!
Dropped Coleman off at our friends for a dinner date at PF Changs with my sweetie.
Rainbow sandals + the new Rascal Flatts CD + Rascal Flatts Concert tickets = SO EXCITED!!
Checked Facebook and noted the awesome fanfare of friends wishing me a happy birthday.
Got compliments all day on the sweet feather earrings Jenn gave me.

All in all, I had a great day! Thanks for all the love, I'm a lucky lady!

Lake Powell never lets you down!

We went to Lake Powell last week with some of my family and had a blast. Coleman loved swimming and loved the boat, of course, as well as playing with his fun cousins! It is always fun to see him interact with kids who are older and bigger than him, I wish he had someone older to play with all the time!! We got there a day late and when my family picked us up at the marina, they were bound and determined to get a houseboat because the wind and rain was pretty bad the night before staying in tents. So we ended up staying in a houseboat after all and had a great time! We went cliff jumping, took a boat ride to rainbow bridge, watched the 4th of July fireworks from the Dam in our boat, learned how to wake surf, and David even cleared the wake on the wakeboard doing a 360*! What a great summer trip!

Since Coleman has always been a little monster, what better theme for his
1st BIRTHDAY
than a Monster Theme!
Apparently Party stores don't carry monster decorations or paper goods
because it isn't popular right now, so we had to make do,
but I still think it turned out okay. Also, it was rainy with thunder and lightening,
so our backyard birthday BBQ turned into a house party...oh well.

We made homemade BBQ Pizza for all the quests, played
Monster bean bag toss, opened presents and ate a bright green monster
cake and homemade ice cream. Thanks to everyone who came
and helped make Coleman's 1st Birthday memorable!
We love all our friends and family who came or sent gifts - THANK YOU!!

Coleman began walking yesterday. He had been taking little steps all week, 2 or 3 at a time before falling down and then crawling, but yesterday he finally began to walk. Here's a video of him walking across the front room.

For Mother's Day, David got me a cookbook. Not just any cookbook, but a really really good one that has me obsessed with trying new meals and making dinners again and it has been so.much.fun! Tonight, we had BBQ pizza, not to be confused with BBQ Chicken pizza. We actually BBQ'd the pizza outside on our grill and it was AMAZING! It only took 6 or 7 min. on the grill and I just don't see how we could go back to making pizza in the oven. As we sat down enjoying our spoils, we realized that everything we were eating was fresh from scratch - the dough, the sauce, the veggies, and the basil was even freshly picked from our garden! One more reason I LOVE THE SUMMER...we get to eat fresh from our garden from July-Oct and it is unlike anything else!

If you're planning on attending Coleman's Birthday party, then get excited because we're planning to make these again for the party! Soooooo Good!

We're finally having a house warming party, but don't worry - it doesn't mean our
house is all set up and decorated and ready to go, it just means I have a deadline. :) And
Coleman turns 1 in a few weeks, so we're having a party for that too! Anyone who
would like to come to either and is close enough to come is invited, just let me
know if you're coming so I know what to plan on. Happy Sunday!

Coleman is now over 11 months old and still not walking, but I've decided it's okay. He does everything his own way and this is no different. He's happy and healthy and runs all over the place if we let him hold our pinky, but he drops to his knees the second we let go. That little rascal! He laughs and laughs and makes me smile everyday. He's independent and strong willed and incredible in every way. He LOVES being outside, loves to swim and play with water
and he still loves to play the guitar with dad.

Coleman, you make being a mom SO MUCH FUN!

I've lived in Provo, Utah for almost eight years now,
EIGHT YEARS! Wow.
Ever since I moved here, I've been quick to let everyone know that
living here was not a permanent solution and that I would never become a Utahn
and would definitely not be raising my children here. At first my excuse was the weather,
but I now actually like the weather for the most part. Slowly, Utah has gotten to
me and I hesitantly admit that I now LOVE it here.
Admittedly now, my only strong argument is that my family and a few old friends
live somewhere else. I want them here or I want to be there and that's that.
I don't like having a son that doesn't live by his cousins or grandparents or
aunts and uncles. I don't like missing out on small quiet backyard barbeques
and swim parties and beach camping vacations and meaningful conversations on the couch
and lazy afternoons that never seem to end. I don't like missing soccer games
and piano recitals and graduations and first dates and birthday parties
and baptisms and blessings and hospital visits to new babies.
I want to be close, I really do.
And I want you to be close to us,
actually I would RATHER you be here than I be there.
The weather is better (sometimes), the traffic is definitely better, the people are
generally nicer, the air is cleaner, the mountains are bigger, the economy is better,
jobs are stronger, and food, houses, gas, etc etc etc are ALL cheaper.

That said,

This is where we need to be and I feel it now stronger than ever.
As David and I were discussing how blessed we were to find and buy our house recently,
I felt overcome with the love that my Savior has for me and unmistakeably
I felt Him say that we are here because this is where He wants us to be.
I don't know why and I don't know how long, but David and I
both feel that this is where we need to be.
And sometimes it kills me.
But as soon as I remember that my will and my life is the only thing that I have
to give to my Savior Jesus Christ, and it is the only thing He has ever asked of me,
then I find strength.
Everything I am and everything I have
ever been is because of Him.
Every choice I make is rooted in my love for Jesus Christ
and EVERY SINGLE blessing I have ever received is from Him,
because he loves me.
He led me to BYU where I found David, He kept me in faith waiting for David,
He led us to this home, and He brought about so many miracles to ensure
that we buy THIS specific home.
We love our neighborhood, we love our ward, and we love our friends here.
And I KNOW, I KNOW without a doubt that
as we continue to trust Him, that He WILL continue to guide us
and unfold miraculous blessings all around us
because this life of mine, this life that He has chosen for me,
has SO FAR SURPASSED all expectations I have ever had for myself
and every time I try to hold Him back and do things my way,
He always blows me away by showing me what amazing things
I would have missed if I hadn't stopped and let go.
So that's why we're still in Provo, and in all honesty,
I really don't know how long we'll be here or where we will go next.

Jesus Christ lives.
He is the Son of God and I thank my Heavenly Father
EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
that He sent His son to atone for my sins.
I am SO grateful that He is guiding my life and that He is in charge, instead of me.

10 months and still NOT walking...

I thought for sure Coleman would be walking by now because he's been
crawling and furniture surfing for SOOO long, but he's just taking his sweet little time.
I think he just takes after me and gets impatient with walking since he
can't get around as fast as crawling, because he hauls when
he crawls around, but we'll see. I bet he'll start
running the day after he starts to walk, that's just his style.
That's okay Coleman, we still think you're pretty darn cute and
love your guts even if you are ruining all your pants. :)

I promise I'll get better at posting these when David takes the photos on the
actual month mark eventually...

Coleman is over nine months now - he's been out longer than he was inside, that's a big deal! I cannot, seriously, cannot believe my baby is SO BIG and growing up SO FAST!!! He is VERY close to walking, pulls himself up onto everything, climbs up and down our few stairs, and even took a step on his own a time or two. He also says "mama" when he's whiny, tired, hungry or wants to snuggle with me and says "dada" when he's happy and wants to play. Maybe he'll see me as a friend to play with someday. :)

This has been my absolute favorite age - he plays with you and laughs so hard. He also has become a GREAT eater and for the first time since he was two months old he no problems eating. He sleeps well, is happy most of the day, plays, gets in to everything and even "unrecycles" as David calls it. Needless to say I am LOVING LIFE!!

Sorry to disappoint, but no photos this time around.

We're still unpacking and rearranging and decorating and purchasing home stuff, so I'll do a photo update once we're a little further down the road. However I had to post about the move because I felt so grateful for so many friends and family who came out on a snowy Saturday to help us move. We had so much help, including a completely enclosed trailer that fit most of our stuff, that it only took us 2 hours to move just about everything! David and I packed, labeled and stacked all of our stuff in the living room to make it easier and then we had so many friends and family show up to help move it. Erynn had a babysitting service in Coleman's old room for Coleman and all my friend's kids, and we had cardboard boxes all over to carpet to protect it from all the mud and I'd say the move was a huge success.

I'm also EXTREMELY grateful for a husband who is oh soooooo handy and talented. He has fixed, taken apart, cleaned, installed so many things in the last two weeks from taking the oven and fridge doors off to get them through the front door to hanging blinds, installing dishwashers (yes plural, we had a lemon for the first one so he's done it twice now), and hooking up our washer and dryer. I've definitely learned a lot about different tools and small things you can buy at Home Depot like "pigtails". Haha. In addition to all of our craziness, he helped someone else move on Saturday and when he was mowing the lawn at the house we used to rent, I went outside to talk to him and he was mowing our neighbors lawn too even though we had been cleaning for 4 hours because she is recently divorced and he didn't want her to have to come do it alone. He is so giving and so selfless! David is the best, truly has the best heart, out of anyone I've ever known! Such a sweetheart!

Fulfill a 5 year dream. Check.

I Splash 'N Dash'd a few weeks ago at BYU and I LOVED.EVERY.SINGLE.MINUTE! Ever since David's mission, I found out about BYU's Splash 'N Dash Biathalon and I would dream about doing the running portion, while David did the swim and we would win the team race. Then he came home from his mission and I had a torn ACL and it took two years to recover and then I had another surgery to repair it and then last year I was pregnant with Coleman. So now, five years later here I was out of shape trying to work out with a stroller debating on whether or not we should really do it, but we did and it was worth every minute. I don't know what my time was and I probably didn't do so great, but the fact is...I DID IT! I finally fulfilled a dream of mine and did something I've always wanted to do and it felt great! I did the whole thing - the swim and run and I smiled the whole time. If possible, that will definitely be a regular thing for me, but knowing my luck it may be another five years before I'll be able to do it again. Coleman just loved the free bagels and oranges they handed out to the runners at the end. :)

A Day with the Girls

Why is it that every time girls get together, they just laugh and laugh and laugh? I LOVED my ski day a couple of weeks ago with two of the coolest ladies around - Jessica and Jenny. Don't worry, the weather and snow were horrible and icy, but we seriously laughed the whole day and now we're looking back wondering why we didn't go together more! I think Jenny would agree, we'd snowboard with a skier anytime if it's Jessica, she even made skiing look fun!

I think I need to get some purple pants now for next time
because they totally matched each other....

I turned around and guess who was standing there smiling at me ALL BY HIMSELF!!! Oh my gosh, I am in serious trouble! He turned 9 months TWO days ago and within just a couple of weeks, he'll be WALKING!!! Wow.

We had a great time seeing so much family last month! We got to see Jon and Andrea, Rose, Erynn, Jacob & Laura, Grandma Myra and Grandpa Mark, and Jamie and Brent! Thanks for coming out everyone, we loved seeing you. Coleman loves seeing family and got to know them so well - here's a photo of Coleman and Grandma.

Isn't Mayla a babe? Gorgeous!

This was the two of them last night when we got to watch Mayla for the evening. If I didn't know any better, I'd think he was trying to put the moves on her! Don't worry, he already does. When she cries, he crawls over and gives her a kiss - that a boy! Coleman LOVES it when she comes over to play and so do I because she giggles and squeals and models for us and is such a sweet little girl. Her mom is not so bad either - we have A LOT of fun together! Don't worry, we've already talked about Coleman taking her to the Prom...

Steamboat Springs, CO

We had a great trip to Steamboat Springs, CO a few weeks ago and would love to go again next year if we can! Jon and Andrea were excellent hosts and we loved taking a few days to hang out in a cute ski town with the locals. We went sledding - more like extreme sledding and it was awesome, we went swimming in the hot springs - Coleman LOVED this, we went to a fireworks show and we hung out with the Scotts. Thanks for a great trip guys!

Buyer's Market

So we've decided to take advantage of the low interest rates and cheap homes and buy one! We found a nice little foreclosure in Provo that is a gold mine and we're currently in Escrow, so if everything goes through, we'll be closing on March 28th and moving in the first week of April!! Until it's really ours, I'm only posting one photo because I don't want to get everyone's (mine especially) hopes up until it's a done deal. Until then, enjoy this photo - it's my favorite thing about the house!

You might say that Brittany and I are spiritual; at least we try to be genuine in our worship. Looking back, we have realized that there are times in our lives when we feel God’s spirit guiding or inspiring us as our lives unfold. This is one of those moments.

A few years back we began discussing when we should buy a home. After the big housing market crash, we thought, wow, know is our time to buy a home that we can afford, and at a fraction of what it might have been valued at a year prior. We looked at a few homes, thumbed through a few house magazines, but never felt comfortable with the idea. The timing wasn’t right.

About two weeks Brittany and I both felt like now might be a better time to buy a home. We’ve been thinking about it, and have felt surprisingly more at peace with the idea of purchasing a home. Within a relatively short period of time, we have acquired approval for a loan, hired a realtor and are now ready to begin making offers on a home. It has been amazing to both of us at how fast things can come together when the timing is right.

For those who are faithful, the Lord has promised, “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.” (The Old Testament, Malachi 3:, 10-12)

Late Christmas Gift

Last week David and I went on a date to the movies. The babysitter we left Coleman with is a friend of ours who also has a daughter almost his exact age. About five minutes after we dropped Coleman off we received the following text message from Jessica, our babysitter.

"I came into the living room and found Coleman sucking on Mayla's forehead and Mayla was pulling on his arm. Don't worry, I broke it up."

Kids just grow up so fast these days...

As part of a gift I am giving to Brittany, I've been putting together a collection of photographs and memories together. The other day, as I was digging through an old box of pictures, I came across this school photograph from 1992. I couldn't help but laugh as I saw how young I was, and how funny 7-year old kids are. The two boys in the front with the glasses (the one that looks like the 'uni-bomber' and the one next to him who is just barely peeking over the head of the girl in front of him) just crack me up.

Tonight Melissa, a classmate from that 1992 class, and a good friend of my wife, came over to visit for a few hours. It's always nice to catch up with old friends, and find funny old photographs. I'm the one next to Vadeem.

Curious Little Boy

Coleman is so curious. Tonight, while we were writing thank you cards for everyone that sent us Christmas gifts, Coleman was busy trying to crawl into the fireplace. Since we've lived here, we have never used it, so it's just filled with cobwebs and dust, but for some reason, he loves it. So we've put up a chair from our dining table to keep him out, but as you can see, that no longer stops him. Before I started recording the video, the chair was completely blocking the fireplace and he pushed it aside so he could crawl in.

Another first for Coleman...

I'm sure it will be the first of many, but today Coleman fell off my bed and landed right on his forehead.
And it was terrible.
He cried and screamed and whimpered for at least 20 minutes without letting me touch it or put ice on it until I was inspired to give him a bath to calm him down.
Now he has a bump and a bruise to prove it really happened and I'm sure he has a little baby headache, but I can't be sure.
The crazy thing is that I was standing two feet away and turned for just a second to fold a pair of pants. Wow!
I have officially been reminded to always put him in a safe place or watch him completely and I'm grateful that the reminder came in the form of a small bump on the head instead of something much worse. Like a burn, broken bone, stitches, choking, or something else horrible you can think of.
You can never be too careful. Ever.

Wow, I had a baby SIX MONTHS AGO! I can't believe that our little family ever existed without Coleman, yet just six months ago it did. Why did we wait so long to have kids, remind me? Well we're glad we had a chance to be a family of two with all of its spontaneity, but now we can't imagine ever going back to life before kids. We love Coleman to pieces and have cherished the last six months of learning, loving, laughing, and swooning all over him because
he's just so much fun!

Six Months Stats:

-Cole weighs a whopping 16.34 lbs,
putting him in the 25% percentile for weight, still.

-He is 28 inches long,
placing him in the 91% percentile for height....he's getting taller!

-And, his head is in the 30% percentile
so,...............
To sum it all up he is still tall and skinny, getting taller,
and he has a small head. :)

New things he's learned:

*Coleman is Crawling all around our living room and keeps us on our toes!
*He seems happier that he can now crawl around to explore new things and isn't so tied down
*He is eating more and more solid foods and loves eating off our plate. He loves bread and HATES peaches.
*He also loves drinking water and does better with a water bottle or normal cup than a sippy cup
*He still sleeps about 12 hours at night with one break to snack around 5 or 6 am
*He only sits still when sleeping or watching Baby Einstein, and is moving like crazy all other hours of the day
*He is screaming less and grunting, "mmm"-ing, and making lots of other sounds more
*He stares down strangers more before he'll give them a smile, as opposed to just flirting with everyone who looks at him like before
*He sits up much better by himself
*He still LOVES bath time and will probably be a swimmer like his dad
*He laughs when he likes something and grunts when he wants something, so it makes it much easier to know what he wants (as you can see from the crawling video I posted)

Six months old and...CRAWLING?!!

Yep, that's right, our active little guy is actually crawling around on his hands and knees and he seems to be getting faster and more mobile by the day. It has been so fun to see how him move around and to see how happy he is now that he can just go get what he wants. I think he feels pretty liberated. :) Fortunately for me, he hasn't quite perfected it yet, so he will crawl all over the living room, but hasn't ventured out into the kitchen yet. Therefore, I've only had to baby proof one room. Not for long, I'm sure! Enjoy the video we just recorded tonight!

David and I got to go snowboarding together for the first time in two years and we had SO MUCH FUN!! Thanks mom and mark for getting us tickets to Sundance for Christmas and also for getting David those pants, we had a great time and I even let someone babysit Coleman without being worried the whole time. :) We can't wait to go again and we think we'll make it a monthly date, if not more frequent! David has quickly become my favorite person to snowboard with because he is better than me, so I really have to go fast to keep up and it is so fun!

The MAGIC of Christmas is on Temple Square

We got to go see the lights on Temple Square on CHRISTMAS DAY and it was amazing! No crowds, no rush, just magic and we got to take it all in. It was quite a fulfilling experience to bring Coleman because he LOVED the lights and wanted to touch them all! I got chills when we stepped onto the grounds and I remembered that the first day David and I spent together was to photograph the temple square lights 7 years ago and now we've come full circle, bringing our son to enjoy them with us.

We had a wonderful Christmas, cozy at home as a new little family and the day seemed to flash by too quickly. I remember always feeling like Christmas Day was so long, and we used to have time to even go to the movies, but this year we blinked and it was over. We had a wonderful day and although we missed being with family, we still enjoyed a quiet day in our own home. We hope your day was as magical as ours was!!

David was excited to wake up a find a 1986 Yamaha Enduro dirtbike outside. He even rode it in his pajamas - and as you can see, his Christmas pajamas this year was a pair of tight thermal underwear so that says a lot!

David knew it has been hard for me to paint since having Coleman with all my supplies in the basement, so for Christmas his gift to me was a complete solution. He bought be a locking (to keep curious Coleman out of my paint) painting cart that I can roll away when I'm not using it and he BUILT me an easel that he mounted to the wall in our kitchen so I can still have good painting light, be upstairs with Coleman, and still be able to paint. He also had a custom glass palette made to fit the top of the cart. He is so thoughtful!! I LOVE that I now have an easel in my kitchen, don't judge us, just embrace it. :)

Coleman was more interested in the wrapping paper and how he could get it in to his mouth than he was the gift inside, but maybe that's because we mostly got him clothes because when he opened the toys my mom got for him, he actually reached for the toy and started playing with it instead of the paper. Good to know. He was VERY interested in the tree though - he loved the red ornaments and the lights. His gift to us this Christmas was crawling for the first time...more on that later. :)

Coleman got HOOKED up this Christmas from his Grandparents and is officially spoiled rotten! He even liked what he got from them better than what mom and dad got him!

Coleman got so many presents from Grandma Myra and Grandpa Mark that he didn't know which to play with first. You guys knew just what he'd like, thanks a ton! (I'll have to blog a picture of the walker later. :))

Coleman was so enthralled with the snow falling outside this morning. He sat there and stared for 10 minutes and would look at me, then look back at the snow as if to say, "Mom, what is that and why is it in our yard?" I thought it was so cute, so I just had to take a picture - sorry they're a little blurry.

We've had a lot of rain lately, so it was exciting to wake up to snow this morning. Hopefully the weather will stick around for a few more days so we can have a white Christmas!!!

For Thanksgiving we flew down to Benicia in Northern California and Coleman was, let's just say VOCAL on the flight both ways. I repented of ever thinking that mom's should just shut their babies up or not fly with them because sometimes, that is exactly what they are trying to do and can't. I now know this firsthand unfortunately.

We had a great time visiting with our family on the Scott side and Coleman got to meet lots of cousins and aunts and uncles! Out of everyone, grandparents included, I think his cousin Eva was his biggest fan because she just LOVED holding him and made him laugh so much! Eva's going to be a great mommy!

A few highlights from our trip include John Muir Woods (David was excited about the photos he took and posted those earlier), riding bikes across the Benicia/Martinez Bridge, incredible Thanksgiving Dinner at Alisa's - great food and great company, turkey bowl at the park.

I'm grateful for family this year and for so many people who love us and care about how we are doing. We feel spoiled because we have been so blessed by so many friends and family!

We went to California TWICE in November and have been so busy that we haven't thoroughly blogged either trip! Here's my belated attempt at the first trip:

We mostly drove down to go to Gavin's baby blessing and spend our free Disneyland tickets, but we also loved spending time with family and felt like we really got to spend some quality time with you guys. We had a great trip and we were sad to have to go. The weather was great, the company was even better, and Coleman got to meet a few important people for the first time!! A few highlights were: Caramel apples in Oak Glen and riding go-carts at the shop afterward, Disneyland, Gavin's blessing, Staying with Jamie and Brent and eating lots of delicious food because we had so many people host us! Here's a few photos from the trip...

Coleman is unique

Coleman doesn't like to do things the normal way. For example, instead of sucking on his pacifier, he chews on the edge of it. When I try to stick it in his mouth the right way, he quickly pushes it out and puts it in like so. At least he sucks on his fingers. Some people may think I should try to force him to suck on the pacifier instead, but for those of you who know Coleman, there's no "forcing" him to do anything. Besides, I like that he sucks his fingers and has a way to soothe himself.

5 Months...(or 5 1/2 now)

Well, I'm not that great at blogging when things happen, but fortunately for me I married an awesome photographer who's photos make up for my lack of staying on top of things. Coleman is 5 1/2 months old now and growing like a weed! I can't keep up with him and I'm terrified of how much more he'll wear me out in the coming weeks because HE'S ALMOST CRAWLING! He's just too curious to sit there like a cute normal baby, he wants to go go go and touch everything in sight! Fortunately for me since he is so active, he also wears himself out so I get plenty of sleep and time to work during naps.

He gets up on his hands and knees and he scoots all around his crib. He also crawls to get things on either side of him but cant figure out how to move forward yet. And yes, he's rolling ALL over to get where he wants to be, tummy to back, back to tummy, sometimes both connected! We had to stop swaddling him at night because he prefers sleeping on his tummy now, so he just rolls over if we lay him on his back. He's SO MUCH FUN!!

our first Christmas at home together and we are so excited!
We are excited to establish our own family traditions
and have searched hi and low for wonderful,
Christ-centered traditions to bring into our home.
Here's a few of the ideas we got from other wonderful
families in our group of friends at church...

-Visiting a nursing home
-Volunteering at a soup kitchen
-Acts of service paper chain
-Advent the four Sunday's before Christmas to talk about Christ as a family
-Giving a gift to the Savior on Christmas eve each year
-Filling the manger with acts of service to prepare Christ's bed for His birth
-Wrapping 24 favorite family books and opening one each day and
reading it as a family leading up to Christmas
-Doing a charitable act in someone else's name as your gift to them for Christmas
-Family prayer and read Luke chapter 2 before opening presents
to remember the Savior's birth
-Add a new ornament to the tree each year to eventually fill your tree with
family memories from over the years
-Anonymously donate to a family in need

Tall trees and a little handful of sunshine

Coleman is such a little Houdini. While we were in Benicia, CA visiting family for Thanksgiving, we woke up one morning and found Coleman sleeping in his portable crib, both arms free of his Velcro tight sleeping sack, and one arm out of his pajamas. He's a lion in a lambs body.

While in the Bay Area, we decided to take a walk through the John Muir woods. It was nice to spend some time enjoying warm weather and nice sunshine while in California. We had a great time.

Me, David and Coleman and it STINKS!
So last night, Coleman woke up around 3:30 am
SCREAMING
and wouldn't take his pacifier, which is normally why he
wakes up crying late at night. He seemed frantic and
I was completely stumped as to what to do.
I knew he probably had a plugged nose and couldn't breath with his paci in,
or he had a sore throat and wanted me to fix it
but both are a hard thing for me to do anything about with a 5 month old.
All of a sudden I remembered what my mom used to do for me
when I was sick and couldn't sleep late at night.
So, I took him in the bathroom, turned on the shower to HOT
and we sat in the steam.
All three of us.
And sat.
At first he was crazy and frantic and crying so hard
but before long, he began to calm down,
enough so that I could feed him
and then that calmed him down even more.
And I thought, THANK YOU MOM!!!
Thank you for staying up late with me at night
when you were SOOOO TIRED,
because now I know what that's like
and thank you for always knowing just what to do
to make a little sicky feel better
and thank you for teaching me
what to do when my little sicky needs to feel better
Because last night,
I was able to help him and I knew what to do
because you did it for me so many times years ago
and I could feel the love you had for me,
because of the love I have for him.
And now, I feel like

I am REALLY a mom.

Beard or no beard??

David decided to grow a little scruff one day and once he had it, I wouldn't let him shave! I LOVE it when he has a short (very short :)) and clean looking beard because he has a baby face and looks so much older, handsome, charming, debonair, and let's face it...sexy! He got past the itchy stage and has now had a beard longer than any other time in his entire life.
I think we're going on 3 weeks now or so.

Lil' Cole had his four month well baby check on Wednesday

and guess who is in the
72nd percentile for height
and the 24th percentile for weight,
yup, you guessed it...we have a tall and skinny baby on our hands!
He's turning into a little boy more and more everyday and although it is
so sad to realize that very soon he won't be my baby anymore,
we have had a BLAST watching him grow and develop
and become more of a person than a baby that just eats and sleeps.
He has also developed quite a personality and
has a strong preference for just about everything!
If we try to do something different than what he wants, he will
let us hear it!

Coleman likes to scream and talk to himself all day since he is
learning all about making noises and
he will smile at just about anybody who gives him a smile first.
He also reaches for just about everything in sight now and
LOVES toys that make any sort of noise.

In other exciting news, he also got his first taste of something
other than mom's milk on Wednesday
with Rice Cereal AND Peas!
(I know, we're only supposed to do one at a time, but we were just so excited!)
How did he do, you may ask,
well let's just say more got on his shirt than in his mouth, but it was still so fun.

David is such an awesome dad! He always plays with Coleman, plays him guitar, and makes him laugh. When I walked in to Coleman's room tonight after blogging for a little bit, I found this....

...the toy bucket tipped over with toys everywhere and David just holding Coleman up so he can play with them all! That's got to be every boys dream - Dad playing with me and giving me all the toys in the world.

David is also an AMAZING dad because he fixed the heater in my car last Saturday so Coleman wouldn't be cold this winter, and so I wouldn't be. :) Can one person be any more talented??? Seriously! He fixes our cars, fixes our appliances, is an amazing photographer, was a collegiate athlete, speaks fluent spanish, rocks at any sport he tries - including wakeboarding and snowboarding, writes his own music on guitar and bass, and he can make/build/fix just about anything. How did I get to be so lucky marrying him??

Overdue post...3 months and counting

Coleman is actually almost 4 months old now, so hopefully I can be more on top of the next update, but first let's do 3 months...

*He's rolling over constantly every time I lay him down, but he doesn't like his tummy very much, so he gets mad that he's rolled over but as soon as I put him back on his back he does it again!
*He laughs out loud - and it is the cutest thing!
*He sleeps through the night - for 12 HOURS now!!
*He is exercising his vocal chords and SCREAMS and SCREAMS happy screams all day...especially at church when it is quiet.
*He notices toys now and reaches for them and plays with them. He loves anything that makes noise.
*He loves his linen blankets from Charity and calms right down when I give him one. As soon as it's in his hand, he brings it straight up to his face and it is so sweet!

Time for bed...

We are trying to get Coleman on more of a schedule and establishing a few routines that he can rely on because all the experts say it's the best. So, at night we feed him, give him a bath, read him a story, have family prayer and then it's off to bed and he puts himself to sleep. Although he struggled a little at first with getting used to this, he now loves it. All of it. And he especially loves story time and bath time and then he puts himself to sleep, sometimes without making a peep, within just a few minutes!

He LOVES and I mean LOVES bath time! He splashes and laughs and talks and screams happy screams the whole time!

Although at first he would cry and be fussy during story time, it quickly became something he loves and looks forward to! We even read to him during the day when he's fussy and he'll calm right down.

I will forever declare to every new mom that rocking babies to sleep is more for the parents than for the child and that if you can let them learn to go to sleep on their own, they will go to sleep easier and stay asleep longer...and don't wait until they're old enough to sit, crawl or walk because they'll just stand up and scream instead of go to bed if you haven't established it yet. We just learned that from some friends who are now trying to get away from nursing to sleep with a 15 month old. Yikes!

We went to the Lion King a few weeks ago and it was AWESOME! Leaving Coleman was VERY difficult to say the least, but I think it was good for us to go and for Coleman to be with someone else. I bought the tickets back in March before I knew anything about needing a babysitter. Thank you thank you to Ken and Kristina for watching little Coleman! The play was incredible and we both absolutely loved it! If any of you have never seen the Lion King, you absolutely have to go! The costumes, the singing, all of it was absolutely amazing! When the huge elephant comes out in the opening scene, it is absolutely breathtaking!

The cutest thing about having Coleman babysat was when we got back and he wouldn't even let me or David feed him a bottle. He refused it and screamed at me every time I tried to give it to him and I was forced to nurse him. He just needed to know it was me and I was back. Just another wonderful thing about being a nursing mom!

This is our new cat. Surprised? So are we. Since before Coleman was born we have noticed this cat hanging around our house. In fact once, I almost peed my pants early one morning when I sat down in my truck and the cat screeched and jumped out the back window because it had been sleeping in my car all night long.

Last week Brittany and I were pulling weeds in the front yard. The cat snuck up and scared Brit half to death. After that we named him Rascal. Now he's like another member of the family, except that he's not allowed in the house, nobody is allowed to feed him and we don't even dare touch him. Although, I'm sure that Coleman will pull his tail and whiskers in a few months.

WWF Comes to Provo

This weekend the Bienvenidos festival is going on right in the middle of downtown Provo. Friday night's main event, WWF wrestling. My brother in law Jacob and I had quite an interesting conversation regarding the cultural relevance of this low-brow drama.

Paco, the masked wrestler could easily be a metaphor representing all of peoples of Hispanic descent. "Junior," Mr. White Trash in the flesh, with his tight blue leather pants, is a shadow of the inherited prejudices and generational hate and discrimination against latinos. In the end, Paco overcomes and defeats over Junior, signifying his triumph over oppression and prejudice; but not before an awesome body slam by mister blue hot-pants...

Coleman, when did I say it was okay for you to grow up?
Has it really already been two months??
Well dad and I love you more at two months than we did at even
2 weeks because you are SO MUCH FUN!
You have so much of a personality and are so fun to watch,
like when you were so mad at me after your shots
and gave me the stink eye and wouldn't let me touch your hand
or when you crack up at the giraffe stuffed animal that dangles from your swing
or when you wake up and are soo sleepy and you just want to snuggle
and STRETCH and yawn for sooo long! You are like a bear coming
out of hibernation, even if it was only a short nap. :)
We love making you
smile and laugh
and we love that you are so helpful at holding your pacifier in your mouth
and when you lose it, we love it how you try so hard to suck on your hands,
even if it looks like you might bite them right off!
We love everything about you and can't wait to see what the
next two months will bring!

I never thought I was good at gardening

and really never thought it could be
FUN
but David and I have sure had good luck with our garden this year
and I can't wait to plant MORE next year!
I think we owe it to the fertilized dirt we filled the truck with
and dumped in our garden area this year.
Either way, our tomatoes...totally taking over and almost growing into the house!
But don't you worry, the bell pepper plant that the tomatoes
have smothered, has now grown out sideways and found some light and is growing up again.
Somehow it survived and is thriving...fertilizer, that's all I gotta say!
I think tonight I'll make roasted tomato basil soup,
fresh from my garden...jealous? Well if you're in the area, then
stop by for a tomato or two..we have plenty to share!
Also growing wonderfully at the Scott's - honeydew melon, zucchini, basil, and bell pepper. :)

He probably spends the most time in here out of every room in our house
between naps and feeding
and you can really tell that he knows it's his place
because every time I walk in there when he's fussy he calms right down.

And yes, the guitar hanging there is not just for decoration,
David plays us guitar ALL THE TIME...probably EVERY DAY. :)

2 Week Post...7 Weeks late

Brace yourself, this is a long one jam packed FULL of awesome pictures of little Coleman. David and I thought about taking him somewhere professional to get some really awesome pictures taken when he was only two weeks old, but then he suggested we just buy some different fabrics at JoAnn's and do our own photo shoot. I think it turned out pretty nice, what about you? P.S. We counted and we've taken over 1000 pictures of him just in the last two months...we must be obsessive photographers or something!
It helps that David is a real photographer...

Wanna ride Bikes?

All summer David and I have really missed not being able to ride bikes since we couldn't really take Coleman. Then we had the idea of using our Moby Wrap to put him in and go for a little ride and it was AWESOME! He totally loved going on a bike ride and also loves the Moby, so it worked out great! That wrap has come in handy more often than I thought...boating, grocery shopping, riding bikes, the uses never end. We just have to change his position every so often because if he is sleepy, he wont want to hold his head up and likes to be in a laying, more snuggly position, but as he wakes up and wants to look out, he wants to be more free with his hands and feet out. What a personality!

Summer lovin'

I love summer
and I especially love those summer nights
when the air is cool and the sky is clear.
Tonight, Coleman was very sleepy by 9:30, so I fed him and put him to bed early.
When I was done, I found David playing guitar on our front porch.
Mmmm, not only do I love it when he plays guitar,
but what a perfect way to enjoy a cool summer night
so I left the pile of clean laundry and the heap of dishes in the sink to join him.
We eventually moved to our porch swing,
that's in the grass because we don't have a porch,
and just sat
and swung

When do babies start to scoot and crawl??

Because I swear that even though Coleman is only 6 1/2 weeks old, he is already starting to scoot! Every time I lay him on his tummy on the tummy time mat, he lays there for about 10 minutes then gets mad that he can't look out and see everything and he tries to scoot off of it. Here's a few photos of him being bored with laying on his tummy, then a video of him scooting off. Just ignore my commentary...kinda embarrassing!

Look at this awesome blanket Marci made for Coleman!! It is so soft on the inside with those cool dots and is a thicker adorable material on the outside so it is perfect for taking places. It will be his warm quilt when he needs to be wrapped up and his play time mat when laying on the grass. We already took it to an outdoor movie the day we got it and a soccer game last night. Thanks Marci, we LOVE it!!

A crazy little sleeper

To all you mom's out there, does this ring a bell for you when your babies were so little?? I think it's hilarious!

This is how he starts the night and below is how he ends it...

Coleman sleeps very well and has ever since he was just two weeks old. He eats at 9 pm, falls asleep by 10 or 11 pm and sleeps until 5 or 6 am, then eats and goes right back to sleep for another 3 or 4 hours. For all intensive purposes, you could say at this age he is sleeping through the night, so we feel very fortunate that we haven't really had to feel exhausted since the hospital. The funny thing though, is that he wont sleep well unless he is swaddled VERY TIGHT and has something loud going like our industrial fan or humidifier. Usually by the end of the night, he has gotten at least one arm out, sometimes two, and has them up by his head with his blanket all loose and open.

Parker Keys = New Favorite Trip

If you ever have a chance to rent a house in the Parker Keys for a weekend...DO IT!! We kayaked all around the homes, swam, went boating, and enjoyed the sun...all right from our front porch. It was seriously amazing and the perfect trip for little Coleman since he could be in the air conditioning most of the day, then take a boat ride when it cooled off. Parker, we can't wait to come back to you!!

Can you believe my step-dad Mark is 55 and jumping the wake like this and way to go David, mastering the wakeboard with 360*'s and 540*'s!

We loved getting to spend time with family and Coleman LOVED the boat. This was his face while we were driving so fast with the wind blowing his hair all crazy. He would even cry when we had to slow down or end the boat ride.

Trevor would let the fishing poles out of his sight, even on the boat he had to bring them and go fishing and Julia LOVED Coleman. She just couldn't hold him enough!

What a blessing

David gave Coleman the coolest blessing in church yesterday and it even brought tears to my eyes. I didn't cry when he was born, but I cried during the blessing - I guess that says something about how inspired David was. He talked a lot about relying on the Spirit and the light of Christ throughout his life and also mentioned that through God ALL things are possible. So true. Thanks to everyone who was able to make the trek up here, we felt so much love and support. Also a big thanks to Carol, David's mom, for making his dashing little outfit!

David's New Addiction

This past weekend we went boating with some of my family in Parker, AZ and stayed in a sweet house in the Keys just off the river. It was AWESOME! David decided to try a 360* on the wakeboard and ended up doing a 740*...always over achieving! Here's a picture of him doing an actual 360* and he almost landed - way to go Dave! He had a blast and now can't stop thinking about the next time we can go boating...needless to say I think David has found a new hobby.

Coleman loves boating, just like his mom! This was his face the whole time we were driving with the wind blowing so crazy in his face and the engine roaring so loud. Every time we would slow down or turn off the boat, he would start crying...so funny! More photos from our Parker River trip to come....

He went to the movies to see Eclipse, which he LOVED :) and he was quiet the entire time. About half way through the movie, David had to stand up and hold him, but he was still so good! He said he chooses Edward.

Then he went to the Pioneer Day fair in Spanish Fork and fireworks afterward. Although we were tempted to take him on the Merry-Go-Round, we decided against it since he is just so little still. And although the fireworks were loud and pretty extravagant, he slept through it all nice and cozy in his stroller wrapped in blankets.

I LOVE being a mom!

These are of Coleman the first or second week of his life, I can't remember which exactly. He finished eating and just curled up and fell asleep on my lap, it was the cutest thing so I just had to get David to snap a few photos! I can't believe how TINY he was!!

Bath time = calm time

Although it may not seem like it from these pictures, Coleman LOVES bath time. These pictures were of the first bath we gave him, which had to be a sponge bath so he was cold but he loves real baths. In fact, I think he just takes after his dad altogether and loves water because as soon as I turn on the faucet for his bath, he calms right down. He also absolutely loves have his head run under the faucet, so funny!

Three is a lucky number

After a long exhausting 30 hour labor, Coleman is finally here and is doing so well. We had an awesome experience with Orem Community Hospital and felt so much support from our nurses, Midwife Sue, our Doula Rachel, and from the best coach of all, David. Everyday we are amazed by how much more we fall in love with our son!

David has a special bond with him since Coleman has now peed on David three times while being changed. Talk about hilarious, one of the times it almost shot David in the face!

40 Weeks and Counting...

Saturday was my due date. Since Coleman decided he was too comfy to come out, this is what we did instead... Good thing I got a pedicure for the big day.

First we went swimming at veterans memorial pool. It was the best $4 we spent all week. Afterward we had our ward slip and slide activity and David really made a splash on the 100 foot slip and slide, not to mention the mud puddle at the bottom. Too bad the big hills didn't throw me into labor. There's always tomorrow.

Lucy inspired me!

After catching up on my friend, Lucy's blog, I was inspired by her post about making a summer list and I decided I just had to make one myself!

I want to finish the two baby books I've been reading
I want to hug David more
I want to cook dinner at least 5 times a week
I want to pull out my paints and create a masterpiece
I want to go to Disneyland
I want to go swimming
I want to fly kites
I want to bake something delicious every week
I want to book a flight and take a trip somewhere
I want to play catch in our front yard
I want to sit outside and enjoy the summer nights on our swing as David barbeques
...as a result...
I hope I'll want to WANT to go running
I want to continue doing art

This summer we are moving from being a couple to becoming a family and I want to make it something special that we will never forget. Just like the first summer we were married - so many memories.

California Dreamin'

What a trip! From wake-boarding to surfing, David got a chance to get out all of his energy and I on the other hand got to be the center of attention again with another baby shower fit for a queen. Mom, Chair and Mel - thanks for all of your creativity, craft and personal touch that made this shower so amazing! I had a blast seeing so many friends and family and appreciate all the love and support we've gotten from you all. Coleman is going to be spoiled for sure! And how can I not post a photo from my photo shoot with Corban in Huntington - what a ham!

Here I am at almost 39 weeks pregnant - we only have 9 days left to go to my due date, but who knows...Coleman could come earlier than that or later. Let's hope for earlier and expect later. That way I'll be pleasantly surprised either way. :) Bags are packed and in the car, the car seat is installed, and the nursery is ready for him, so he can finally come! Friday will be my last day of work and then I guess I'll just relax, think of some projects to make, read up about babies, and clean the house over and over until he arrives. I bet you wish you could join me...

Best Graduation Gift Ever Given

Our brother-in-law Justin graduated the same time I did this summer, and for graduation we got him a one-of-a-kind signed photograph of Barak Obama. I thought I did a decent job, considering I had little to work from, and not much time to pull it off. I even had Brittany, who is left handed, just like the President is, sign a little note and copy his signature. Justin loved it.

David got a job

Summer vacation is just not the same when you're 25 as it was when you were 15. That is why I am excited to announce that I have finally found a job here in Provo. It has been a long and arduous search but it is finally over. I will begin working as a Research Associate at KLAS enterprises (the same company that Brittany works at). After 3 month's of working, I will be eligible for full benefits (a huge sigh of relief).

Amazing Weekend

More pictures to come, but we just got back from an amazing trip to California where we were somehow able to miss all the crowds and traffic. We went boating, went to the beach, spent time with family, and even had the blessing of my mom and two sisters throwing us an awesome baby shower! We have been so blessed by family and friends who are just as excited as we are to have Coleman join our family.
